Structural Integration

Rolfing in Basel

Briefly explained

What Is Rolfing?

Rolfing - structural integration (SI) - is a form of bodywork that works directly on and with the fascia of the human body. Adhesions and tangles in the tissue caused by restricted movement, injuries, and trauma are released. The aim is an effortless inner alignment of the whole person in gravity.
Rolfing brings about a reorganization and better overall stability of the whole body. It creates a balance that brings the body back into equilibrium and at the same time improves the person's mental and emotional state.

What Is Fascia?

Fascia is our connective tissue. Tendons and ligaments are also fascial structures. They run through our body like a fibrous network, form an internal structure, keep the organs in shape, and ensure that muscles and organs can glide freely to each other.
Accidents, physical and emotional trauma, habitual posture, stress, and lack of movement leave their mark on the connective tissue in the form of adhesions and thickening.
This can lead to chronic poor posture and later to joint pain, headaches, back pain, etc.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Rolfing - Structural Integration.

What does a Rolfing session cost?

The price for a Rolfing treatment is CHF 180. This price includes a body and movement analysis. Up to 80% of the costs can be covered by health insurance in Switzerland.

How long does a session take?

A session usually takes around 60-75 minutes. The aim of each session is to achieve a specific goal, so the duration varies. Rolfing is not charged per hour but per session.

At what intervals should the sessions take place?

The intervals between individual sessions should be around one to three weeks. This time is important so that you and your body have enough time to process the results of the last session and to reflect on them in everyday life. Depending on the situation shorter, intervals can be agreed as long as there is continuity.

What happens during a Rolfing session?

At the start of each session, I assess your body structure and movement patterns while you are in your underwear. You then lie down relaxed on the treatment couch, where I work with targeted pressure on specific areas of the body. During and after the session, you will learn to replace stressful habits with more efficient movement patterns. You will often notice significant differences in the way your body feels after the session.

Does Rolfing hurt?

The touch in Rolfing ranges from very gentle to intense. However, you should always have the feeling that what is happening to you is good for you. If the touch starts to become uncomfortable or painful, you tell me. That way I can adjust my touch at any time.

Do the results of a Rolfing series last in the long term?

A series of 10 sessions can bring about lasting changes, depending on your initial situation, such as age, general condition, and structure. The longevity of the results depends on your willingness to change and actively participate in the process. After 10 sessions, your tolerance for uncomfortable tension will be lower, allowing you to strive for a more effortless posture. The more often you try out the new posture and find it comfortable, the faster the old pattern will fade.

Do health insurance companies in Switzerland pay for Rolfing?

I am recognized by EMR, EGK and ASCA. You can bill my services through your supplementary insurance. Please check with your health insurance company to find out how much of each treatment is covered.

When should Rolfing not be used?

It is always advisable to consult a doctor if a disease is suspected or present. This applies to the musculoskeletal system as well as to organ complaints. Rolfing is not recommended for inflammatory diseases and malignant tumors, nor for pregnant women.
